TBC Partners Up and Signs MOU for “Transparency of Aluminium Can Closed-Loop Recycling” Project.

On December 7, 2021, TBC partnered with Anglo Asia Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd., UACJ (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Thai Beverage Recycling Co., Ltd., to sign an MOU for the “Transparency of Aluminium Can Closed-Loop Recycling” project. The ceremony, presided over by Ratchada Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, Director-General of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, was held at Centara Grand Central Plaza Ladprao.

This MOU aims to support the establishment of a comprehensive recycling system for used aluminium cans in Thailand. It sets a precedent for turning used aluminium cans back into new aluminium drink cans (Can to Can), enhancing the efficiency of collection and separation to improve the quality of used aluminium cans. This project also aims to increase the recycling rate and the recycled content in producing new aluminium cans.

This project aligns with the MOU’s operational plan to promote recyclable drink packaging production. It adheres to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle, where producers are accountable for the environmental impact of their packaging throughout its lifecycle, from design to distribution, return, collection, and reuse. It also supports Thailand’s development strategy for a Bio Economy Circular Economy Green Economy (BCG Model), an economic model for sustainable development.

Ratchada concluded by stating, “The Transparency of Aluminium Can Closed-Loop Recycling project is another key initiative by the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion. It aims to raise awareness about the value of our limited natural resources, encourage the use of reusable packaging, reintegrate resources into the recycling system, and collectively build a recycling society within a circular economy. This is in line with the policy of Warawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, under the concept ‘Next Normal: Live wisely, restore the balance of nature.’”
